Installing ttf-mscorefonts-installer on Ubuntu 12.10 fails/is slow or doesn’t complete

I’m finalizing my new mint 14 setup and I ran into a strange issue with the mscorefonts package. I’ve never had a problem with this package before however I was unable to install the fonts using this package or the package would say it was completed but there were fonts missing.

It came down to an error with the sourceforge mirror, in this post I’ll show you how to fix this.

These commands create the folders to store the downloaded fonts and a text file named fonts.txt containing the names of the files on newlines.

Run this command to download the fonts.

Now reconfigure the package

During the installation it will ask you for an alternate location for the files, put in the full path to the files directory: /home/USER/mscorefonts/files (replace USER with your username).

Then clear your font cache for good measure:

    been at this for 4 hours , and yes it all started with the EULA lic on ubuntu-restricted-extras…everything was perffect till then, thanks NIXIPIXEL.
